Brief Biography
Emma Hines is a research affiliate at the Natural Hazards Center, serving as the manager of the Global Hazards and Disaster Research Centers Map.
Hines is primarily appointed as an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education Fellow with the Climate and Health Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia. In this position, she reviews and conducts climate change and health research, as well as providing technical assistance to state and local public health departments. Additionally, Hines is a lecturer for the Climate Adaptation for Human Health module of the Yale Climate Change and Health Online Certificate Program.
Hines received her master’s degree in geography from the University of Colorado Boulder, where she was a research assistant with the Natural Hazards Center. Hines completed her master’s thesis examining the experiences of hospitals with Hurricane Harvey in Harris County, Texas. Before graduate school, she received her bachelor’s degrees in geography and environmental science from the University of Texas at Austin.
Her current research interests include climate change adaptation and resilience, public health, hazards/disasters, and emergency preparedness.
